In 2019, Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. paid Sundar Pichai the highest amount ever paid to an American CEO that year, about $ 281 million.
So really why is Google keeping this black man from South India, after paying so much.
Sundar Pichai was born into a middle class family in South India. He had to live a difficult life as a child. He did not have a TV, refrigerator or telephone. His father was a junior electrical engineer and his mother was a typists. They lived in a small two-room house, and they had rented out one of those rooms. From an early age he had a passion and curiosity about technology.
He finds that after bringing a fridge to their house, his mother, who is always in the kitchen, spends less time in the kitchen than before, and how everyone in the village came to his house after bringing a telephone. So Sundar Pichai realizes that technology can save time and make work easier.
He had a high IQ level and was the number one student at his university in India called IIT Kharagpur and he also got a scholarship to go to Sandford University in the US. He attained an M.S. from Stanford University in materials science and engineering and further attained an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar, respectively.

After completing his education, Sundar Pichai first joined McKincy & Company, a management consulting firm, as a material engineer.
He joined Google in 2004 as product manager & developer. When he was working with Google, he took the events that he personally encountered as events that would happen to anyone in general and then created wonderful things as solutions. He led the product management and innovation efforts for a suite of Google’s client software products, including Google Chrome and Chrome OS, as well as being largely responsible for Google Drive. In addition, he went on to oversee the development of other applications such as Gmail and Google Maps. In 2010, Pichai also announced the open-sourcing of the new video codec VP8 by Google and introduced the new video format, WebM. The Chromebook was released in 2012. In 2013, Pichai added Android to the list of Google products that he oversaw.
He came up with a brilliant answer to the question of road maps. That’s how he launched Google Maps in 2005. In 2008, it spread all over the world.
In this way, he took the problems he faced as common problems .Specially Google Translator, developed because of a language problem he encountered when he went to China. He introduces Google Translator as a solution to communication difficulties.
One of the problems he was thinking about in 2008 was, when Google had to go online via Microsoft Explorer. So that’s where he came up with the idea for Google Chrome. Sundar Pichai brought this to a place called Google called Search. Someone who worked under him brought YouTube Kids and said that the children were looking at unwanted things on YouTube, so his daughter showed him some flowers and asked him if they could. But he could not answer. There he introduced a product called Google Lens.
In 2008 he became Vice President of Google. Then in 2012 he became Senior Vice President. In 2014, he will become the product chief. Only the ceo and the owners were above him then.
In 2015, Albert, the parent company of Google, changed its corporate structure and made Sundar Pichai the CEO of Google.
His ability to find answers to common questions, as a leader, to listen to others and to see the future, has enabled him to bring Google to where it is today. He is the one who bring google to today’s success.
In 2019, due to his unique abilities, he became to the position of CEO of Google parent company by its owners. They only exist as shareholders.

At one point the BBC asks Sundar Pichai a question. “What your company is, a search engine? an app developer? an AI company? an advertising firm?” Sunder Pichai answers brilliantly.
“None of that” We’re changing people’s lives, creating app products and making people’s lives easier. “
That’s beautiful.
